Alaska CDL Endorsements Practice Test

In Alaska an endorsement allows a commercial driver to operate specific types of motor vehicles. Each endorsement test requires a knowledge test. Some endorsements may require a road skills test.

CDL License Class

Class A: Allows an individual to drive a motor vehicle or a combination of a motor vehicle and one or more other vehicles with a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) greater than 26,000 pounds where the combined Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle or vehicles being towed is greater than 10,000 pounds.

Class B: A single vehicle with a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 lbs or more, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle, not in excess of 10,000 lbs gross vehicle weight rating.

Class C: A single vehicle less than 26,001 lbs gross vehicle weight rating, or any such vehicle towing a vehicle, not in excess of 10,000 lbs gross vehicle weight rating. Applies only to vehicles placarded for hazardous materials or designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.

Alaska CDL Knowledge Test

A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is required for anyone who is driving a vehicle intrastate or interstate with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more. If you will be driving a vehicle designed to carry 16 or more passengers including the driver, or transporting hazardous materials, regardless of the GVWR, a CDL is required.

You will have to take one or more knowledge tests, depending on what class of license and what endorsements you need. The CDL knowledge tests include the general knowledge test, taken by all applicants.

Alaska CDL Endorsement Test

A special knowledge examination on the problems associated with pulling multiple trailers must be passed.

  • Double and Triple Trailers (T)
  • Tank Vehicle (N).
  • Passengers (P).
  • Hazardous Materials (H)
  • Combination Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicle (X).
  • School Buses (S).

Alaska CDL Skills Tests

If you pass the required Alaska CDL knowledge test(s), you can take the CDL skills test when you are eligible. The CDL Skills Test consists of three segments: Vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving.

Alaska CDL On-road Test

You will be tested on your skill to safely drive your vehicle in a variety of traffic situations.The situations may include left and right turns, intersections, railroad crossings, curves, up and down grades, single or multi-lane roads, streets, or highways. The examiner will tell you where to drive.
