Food Handler Certification Course Canada: In Canada, every board of health ensures the availability of food handler training programs within the health unit. Programs offered by the public health units, or on their behalf under a formal agreement, qualify for provincial certification. All successful candidates of these programs receive a Provincial Food Handler Certification Card.
In Canada, Food Handler Certification is a legal requirement for many food workers. The food service industry is a big part of the Canadian economy. It includes people working in the many different parts of food service, like restaurants and grocery stores, and factories that process, package and ship food to those restaurants and stores.
Food Handler Certification Course Canada
In 2012 and 2013, the County and City of Peterborough passed by-laws that address the need for Mandatory Food Handler Certification in high and moderate-risk food premises. The by-laws require that at least one certified food handler be on-site at all times of operation, in a supervisory capacity. This by-law applies to all moderate- and high-risk food premises in the County and City of Peterborough.
The Food Premises Regulation was revised in 2018 to include a similar requirement:
“32. Every operator of a food service premise shall ensure that there is at least one food handler or
supervisor on the premise who has completed food handler training during every hour in which the premise is
operating.”
The final exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute time limit. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the exam. You have unlimited attempts to write the final exam during your 30 day course access period.

To successfully obtain your CIFS Food Handler Certification, you’re required to complete each lesson and pass a final exam within 30 days.
The final exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a 60-minute time limit. A minimum score of 70% is required to pass the exam. You have unlimited attempts to write the final exam during your 30-day course access period.
By law, the test requires proctoring. A Proctor is a person who remotely observes you via a webcam while you complete the exam. Proctors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, allowing you to complete the exam at any time. Simply choose a time that suits you and get started.

Food Handler Training and Certification
The programs listed below have applied and successfully been recognized by the MOH as meeting minimum requirements for food handler training and certification determined by the MOH. These food handler training programs are deemed to be equivalent to the training and certification offered by local public health units. All public health units in Ontario will accept certifications issued by these providers after the date that they are listed as equivalent. Public health units are not obligated to accept certifications issued by these providers before the date that they were deemed equivalent.
